Okay so lately I’ve been watching something play out on my dash, and I want to get the word out there so people can help. I’ve already submitted a report to tumblr abuse staff, but these things work better when they have more than one person bringing it to their attention. The point is that what one person is doing is clearly in violation of tumblr’s user guidelines and probably several privacy laws. 

Tumblr user anasovillano recently received a bout of anon spam, some of which was a little less than savory. Anasovillano attributed it to some people with whom he’d apparently communicated before, including tumblr user nepeta. It should be noted that nepeta is a minor, and that while I don’t know anasovillano’s age, he is an “International studies student in the UK” which implies that as a college student he is likely a legal adult. 

Anasovillano, despite the fact that there’s NO WAY to identify anonymous bloggers outside of best guessing, and despite the fact that (as of the time of writing this) there seem to be NO non-anonymous asks sent from tumblr user nepeta, attributed these asks to her and proceeded to post her full legal name to his blog, even screenshotting it and posting it again in order to keep it at the top of his blog, knowing that it made her uncomfortable. (I’d link to the posts but I DON’T think these users want their names circulated again.)

After making a post expressing her concern about this, anasovillano proceeded to threaten to release even more of nepeta’s information to the public if she continued to harrass him, despite having no concrete way to prove which anons were her and which weren’t, or that she was even doing it in the first place. Here is a screenshot.

He then started a countdown, and every time an anonymous ask was sent to him that he disliked or disagreed with, he automatically attributed it to her and created a malicious, threatening situation for her and two other bloggers by making threats to their privacy a public spectacle and possibly encouraging other anons to imitate them in order to get their information — because again, there’s NO WAY to prove which anons were these users and which weren’t. 

Anasovillano has threatened to release the home phone number, address, and full legal name of a minor with the knowledge that other people will use this information to cause physical, psychological, financial, or legal harm to this person. This is not only a violation of tumblr’s guidelines but possibly the law in anasovillano’s place of residence. Unfortunately I do not know enough about UK law to definitively say so.

PLEASE, please, assess the situation yourself if you have any doubts by visiting both nepeta’s and anasovillano’s blogs. Do NOT send anon hate. Do NOT antagonize either party. This post is meant as a plea to bring attention the situation in the hopes that others will also alert tumblr’s abuse staff to malicious and illegal activity in order to protect the safety of the minors involved. I do NOT condone sending anon hate, and I do NOT condone the actions of the other users who were clearly sending anasovillano antagonistic asks — HOWEVER, THIS IS NO EXCUSE FOR RELEASING THE PRIVATE PERSONAL INFORMATION OF A MINOR TO PEOPLE WHO INTEND TO USE IT TO HARM THE MINOR IN ANY WAY. AND THAT IS WHAT THIS IS ABOUT.

I am making this post on behalf of tumblr user nepeta because after letting her know that I had reported what was going on to tumblr staff, she expressed that she wanted other people’s help but was too afraid to do so because of fear of retribution. If that’s not harrassing a minor, I don’t know what else is. :/ 

If you can PLEASE take the time to alert tumblr staff or report tumblr user anasovillano, it would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.
